I know it's long, and I had to print it to read it off-screen. But it is probably the finest piece of real, old-fashioned journalism that I have seen in many, many years. There are facts, names, dates, and a journalist's fine sense of "big picture" that precipitated its excellent writing. This journalist, Sarah Posner, "gets it." What's more, she has "gotten" the facts down too.

The first thing we need to worry about for the next election is protecting 527s. Losing these tools for Democrats is a real danger. Bush doesn't like them. If you have not read story posted on Yahoo news about 1 hr ago, you must read it as a tea-leaf and the bottom of the cup predicting our future! The Pendulum is still swinging to the Right, and has only just begun. See "`Secularism' in Europe Vexes Vatican" - a story by Liz Sly in Chicago Tribune. You can add the mailing lists of Catholics to the mailing lists of Methodists, Baptists, etc., BUT-in the USA-Bush will render the 527 orgs illegal. Then, only the Righteous will have the effective political machine. Mark my words here folks, Rove's Righteous Right mailing lists and volunteers has already replaced the dismantled Union dominated Democratic machine. They are out to dismantle Democrats' effective use of MoveOn ACT and any of the others they deem threatening to their "Base." Without MoveOn ACT and others, Democrats will not have good tools as we had in this election that lost only by a very small margin. THINK ABOUT HOW WE CAN STOP THE ELIMINATION OF OUR ORGANIZATION TOOLS!!!
